Former Barcelona forward Jari Litmanen shows no signs of hanging up his boots after joining Finland champions HJK Helsinki for the new season at 40.

The ex-Ajax and Liverpool man has been given the number 10 jersey after the club confirmed he would be joining them on Wednesday.

An extract of a statement on the club's official website reads:

"HJK and Jari Litmanen have signed an agreement covering the 2011 season."

Litmanen is said to be "cheerful" and happy with the "spirit of the team".

HJK face SJK in the Suomen Cup on Saturday, but it has not been confirmed as to whether Litmanen will play.

He will, perhaps, be best remembered for winning the 1995 Champions League final with Ajax, who beat Milan 1-0.

A year later he lost the final against Juventus.
